Admissions Opens for PGDM at Kohinoor Business School

Kohinoor Business School (KBS) announces admissions for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM 2014 – 15). The 2 years full time MBA program is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). At KBS - PGDM program is spread across six trimesters and has 60 credits. The first year develops a strong foundation of General Management subjects and the second year students proceed for specialization in their areas of interest. The pedagogy is mixed of lectures, case studies and experiential learning’s. To sensitize students about the real Business environment, Industry Immersion projects start in the second semester itself and run till fifth semester. During this Industry immersion project a student thoroughly analyses a sector followed by Industry and then companies. This is further supplemented by the three months long summer internship which student undertakes with Corporate.

NHAI has appointed Civil Engineering Dept of Thapar University as Safety Consultant for four-laning and widening of 84-km Kiratpur Sahib-Nerchowk stretch of NH-21.
Audit team will recommend measures to enhance road safety, based on relevant drawings, accident data, requirements of different types of road users; it will also review traffic management plan, check barricading, undertake safety inspection of project.

Twelve thousand students across India participate in BSE International Financial Olympiad
108 students compete in the Mumbai finale
Mumbai, April 15, 2014: BSE Institute Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the BSE Ltd hosted the finale of BSE International Financial Olympiad at the BSE International convention hall in Mumbai today. Over 108 students competed with each other to win the national level competition.  Close to twelve thousand students participated in the national level competition which was spread over 6 months. BSE International Financial Olympiad is an initiative to extend financial literacy to the school level through its flagship innovative and educative national level financial quiz competition.
The first round of BSE International Financial Olympiad covered twelve thousand students from 536 schools across 202 cities in 24 Indian states and 108 students were selected for the finale in Mumbai. BSE International Financial Olympiad is aimed at encouraging school students to explore and learn more about financial world by developing analytical and problem solving skills that will be essential to their careers.
The purpose of BSE International Financial Olympiad is to create awareness about financial literacy amongst students at a young age. It is aimed at empowering students with a proper understanding of the opportunities in the financial markets. Financial Olympiad helps students prioritize their personal financial goals and guides them towards becoming financially responsible.
During the initial rounds of BSE International Financial Olympiad, students studying in class 9, 10, 11 and 12 participated in inter school written tests.

Standard X Rweetam Bhattacharya from Aecs Magnolia Maaruti Public School, Bangalore

The winners received cash scholarships for higher studies.

He emphasized personal counseling of each student and convinced the need of the competitive hour to prepare Personality Horoscope of each student. He highlighted practical significance of utility of several aids to teaching like Power Point Presentation, e-journals, Case Studies, Video Games and Films, to mention a few. He persuaded that if proper technology is applied by both the elements in the process of learning viz the faculty and the student, teaching would not only turn very easy but it would also be highly interesting and curiosity arousing. This would, in turn, benefit the institutions also.
Overall the Faculty Development Programme was highly absorbing and all the 20 faculties who attended the programme could learn good points for improvement in Lecture delivery.

WeSchool matches 11 Swedish renewable energy companies with Indian partners
Aims to support the government’s initiative to reduce dependence on expensive imported fossil fuels  

April 23, 2014, Mumbai: The ‘India-Swedish Collaborations for Innovative Energy Solutions’ successfully concludes on April 23, 2014 at WeSchool campus in Mumbai. The initiative is led by India-Sweden Innovations´ Accelerator (ISIA), which is a bilateral program that will contribute to facilitating technology transfer and market entrance in India for Swedish innovative companies, focusing on scaling and adapting their technologies in the renewable energy space to the local context. This initiative aims to support Indian government’s plans to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase capacity of renewable energy.  The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India has made a plan for a capacity addition of about 30,000 MW power during the 12th Plan period (2012-17) from various renewable energy sources mostly through private sector participation in the country.   MNRE has also launched Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission in January, 2010 aiming to 20,000 MW grid power from solar energy by March 31st 2022.
The initiative is supported by Swedish Energy Agency, Business Sweden and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) – Green Business Centre, while Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool) and Mälardalen University are the academic partners.
Based on a 2009 EU directive to promote the development of renewable energy sources, Sweden aims to increase renewable energy to 50 per cent of national supply by 2020. The present figure is 48 per cent, largely thanks to the large proportion of hydropower and biofuels in the energy system. The 48 per cent figure for renewable energy – including electricity, district heating and fuel – is higher than that in most EU countries.
Renowned Indian energy companies like Sahara India Pariwar, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, Tata Power, Ultratech etc attended the event seeking potential partnerships with Swedish counterparts like Opcon, S Solar, HiNation, FOV Biogas, Clean Motion etc in the form of joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions and the like. The initiative will be taken forward by 11 teams which will comprise of one Indian company and one Swedish company in each team.  The teams will also comprise of a total of 35 students from WeSchool and Institute for Future Education Entrepreneurship and Leadership (iFEEL), who would be working together for the next few months to create future proof business models that can be implemented in the Indian market. Such developments would help fulfill India’s alarming per capita power consumption which is estimated to have doubled from approximately 400 kWh in 2007 to almost 800 kWh in 2012, while the power generation capacity increased only 99GW in the past 11 years. India is an attractive market for renewable energy due to both the availability of high solar radiance, wind speeds, as well as the power deficit. Renewable energy lends itself to decentralized generation and distribution further makes it an attractive option for India.
Also, the technology innovations from Sweden included both Business to Business and Business to Customer solutions with emphasis on solutions for the rural market as well.
Talking on the occasion, Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool said, “Rapid development and population explosion has created a sharp gap between India’s demand and supply for energy. Being one of the worst hit nations due to climate change, it’s necessary to take steps that will help reduce dependency on conventional resources like coal and gas and explore deeper in the clean technology segment thereby reducing our carbon footprint. This initiative is an ideal platform to explore new avenues in renewable energy space using Sweden’s expertise and India’s vast resources like solar, small-hydro, biomass etc, to meet the energy requirements in a sustainable and affordable manner.”
He added, “This is also a great opportunity for our students to work with these companies and get hands on experience in implementing their theoretical knowledge to practical use.”
