Pune, October 10, 2016: FLAME University, the pioneer of liberal education in India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nuffield College, University of Oxford that creates a collaborative Centre for Experimental Social Sciences at FLAME University, the first such research centre in India. FLAME University has taken this step in its endeavour to constantly redefine education through its integrated multi-disciplinary approach in developing students to be future global leaders.

Nuffield College, University of Oxford, England, specialises in the social sciences, particularly economics, politics and sociology. It is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford which is ranked as the best university in the world by Times Higher Education Rankings 2016. Many prominent people have studied at Nuffield College, University of Oxford including, Manmohan Singh, Former Prime Minister of India and Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England.
 
Sir Andrew Dilnot, the Warden of Nuffield College, University of Oxford, and Raymond Duch, the Director of the Nuffield College, University of Oxford, Centre for Experimental Social Sciences, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FLAME University in Pune, India that creates a collaborative Centre for Experimental Social Sciences at FLAME.  The signatories from FLAME were Devi Singh, Vice-Chancellor of FLAME University, Krutarth Shah, Governing Body Member of FLAME University, Tejas Patani, Board of Management Member of FLAME University; Sharon Barnhardt, Director of CESS Nuffield-FLAME University; and Pavan Mamidi, Director of International Research Collaborations at CESS Nuffield-FLAME University.  

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Devi Singh, Vice-Chancellor, FLAME University, said, “We are privileged to announce our association with Nuffield College, University of Oxford, UK, one of the most prestigious social sciences institute in the world. This will create a research centre unlike most in the country. It showcases our commitment to enhance the research culture at FLAME University and constantly improve the quality of our education offerings by tying up with the best in the world.”
Dr. Sharon Barnhardt, Director of CESS-Nuffield FLAME University, commented, “The expansion of CESS Nuffield to India made possible by FLAME University, is an investment in social science research, which demonstrates FLAME University’s commitment to supporting an important element of liberal education. The MoU provides for intensive collaboration between Nuffield College, University of Oxford and FLAME University on the training of young experimental social scientists in India. The Centre for Experimental Social Sciences at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, has developed a superb reputation for providing accessible but cutting edge training in experimental methods for students with very diverse interests including students from academia and the public and private sectors.  Professor Duch said “We are very pleased that Nuffield CESS will host, annually, a large contingent of students from FLAME University at our training facilities here in Nuffield College, University of Oxford. These students will get the opportunity to attend research training programs at Nuffield CESS, while staff from our Centre will also conduct training sessions at the new CESS Nuffield-FLAME University facilities on the FLAME campus.”

Over 50 business leaders attend the CEO Conclave organised by Habitat for Humanity India
 
Mumbai, October 10, 2016: In a rare gesture of solidarity, over 50 CEOs from India committed to work together and pledged support to several initiatives by Habitat for Humanity India - a non-profit organization - working towards eliminating substandard poverty housing and open defecation in India.
 
A clear roadmap has been established where corporate India , through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds and initiatives, will work with Habitat for Humanity India in building homes and sanitation units for those in dire need for improved housing and sanitation facilities.
 
The day-long event culminated in the program – ‘Impact Asia and India Builders Night’ and included a charity auction of sports and film memorabilia in aid of widows of the famine-struck regions of Maharashtra . The auction included signed boxing gloves of MC Mary Kom, signed guitar by The Beatles legend Paul McCartney, First Day Cover on World Aids Day signed by Nelson Mandela, signed boxing robe of Muhammed Ali, A football jersey signed by entire Barcelona Football Team and football shoe signed by the legendary football player Lionel Messi.   
 
Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson - The Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development and Chairperson of Habitat’s IndiaBUILDS Advisory Committee said, “A decent roof over one's head is the most important factor for a human being. A home gives a tremendous sense of security, spurs education, lays the foundation of a sustainable livelihood and builds a fine family. In India , the housing scenario is a matter of concern. We need 50 million houses in India , of which, 25 million units are required in urban India alone. We, at Habitat for Humanity, endeavor to bridge this gap, albeit in a very small way. We are committed to cross the 100,000 homes for the homeless by 2020,"
 
At this conclave, heads of companies such as Eicher Motors, GSK, Mphasis, Willis Processing India, shared their views and showed commitment to eliminate the issue of substandard poverty housing and open defecation by joining hands with Habitat for Humanity India.
 
Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India said, “We intend to unite all the decision makers, thought leaders and influencers to discuss issues related to local and regional poverty housing. The discussion by intelligentsias will stir a debate on serious challenges of housing and sanitation. Through this, the identification of the problems stemming on poverty housing will help to come up with solution which in turn will drive systemic policy change. At Habitat we are committed to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter”.
 
Besides sanitation and poverty housing, the representatives of government agencies, academia, poverty-reducing groups, housing organisations, volunteers and business leaders discussed that how they can create a unique business model which can attract the institutional partnership and can plug the affordability gap.
 
The charity event was sponsored by the Aditya Birla Group, Reliance Industries Limited, KKR - Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Citi India and ASK Group.
 
The event also marked the end of Habitat Week; a series of programs organized by Habitat for Humanity India in Delhi and Mumbai from October 2 to October 7, 2016 to mark the UN World Habitat Day celebrated to reflect on the basic human right to adequate shelter. Habitat’s work is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and focuses on the call to “ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and to upgrade slums.”
 
Habitat for Humanity India works in the rural, tribal and urban areas of over 20 states of the country to provide improved shelter and sanitation facilities to the families in need. Among its recent initiatives, Habitat India has collaborated with the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and World Vision India to build better civic amenities, improved sanitation, hygiene and waste management facilities for developing the infrastructure in nine slums known as jhuggi jhopadi clusters. In the Adarsh Basti Project initiated by the Government of Delhi, Habitat for Humanity India has been identified as the nodal agency to improve the living conditions of over 33,000 people living in these nine jhuggi jhopadi clusters. Habitat for Humanity India will serve as a bridge between the local community and the government departments to deliver enhanced services for the urban poor.
 
In Savda Ghevra, an urban resettlement colony of Delhi , resettled families from various slums have been provided with individual household latrines in their newly constructed houses.
 
In Mumbai, Habitat for Humanity India has entered into a partnership with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for constructing 10 community sanitation complexes. One such sanitation complex was inaugurated in Thane. Habitat has also undertaken school sanitation projects in Rajasthan, Bangalore , Delhi , Maharashtra and Haryana impacting over 10,000 children.

Sony Press Release: Sony enhances Sony Media Technology Centre by Introducing new 4K & HDR technology equipment and knowhow

Mumbai, October 06, 2016: Sony India today enhanced the Sony Media Technology Center (SMTC) Facility in Mumbai. Sony has newly introduced the class-leading 4K and HDR production in association with Whistling Woods International (WWI) in addition to the current 3D technical knowhow and equipment. The Facility will now be equipped with top-of-the-line 4K content creation portfolio. SMTC will now offer knowhow in 4K content creation from acquisition to post-production of content and also teach the entire pipeline of 4K live production, filmmaking and methodology. It is the place where the best of new technology and filmmaking tools in the fields of 4K and HDR filmmaking and broadcasting will be made available to both students as well as media professionals such as, in the sports industry, cinematographers, Director of Photography. They can use the facilities, attend training workshops and courses to familiarize themselves with the technology of the future, and thereby strengthen the industry and further the art of film-making and live 4K broadcasting.

With the 4K & HDR technology knowhow now being available along with Sony BRAVIA 4K HDR TVS, it will pave the way for a new way to enjoy television viewing in the future. He added, “SMTC initially had been launched in India in the year 2011 by Sir Howard Stringer (Then Chairman, CEO & President of Sony Corporation) and Mr. Subhash Ghai (Chairman, Whistling Woods International). Sony aims to provide training on 4K live production for sports application, 4K production for drama application, and pushes for XAVC to be the “de-facto” format for 4K/HD acquisition. A special emphasis will be the 4K live production for sports industry considering the boom and demand the sector is witnessing. The new training module focuses on flexible, no-compromise production in 4K and HD quality. It also includes exercises modeled around seamless integration with existing HD and 4K workflow. Sony aims to cultivate the market for 4K migration with the latest HDC-4300, a global pioneer in 4K live production with revolutionary capabilities of shooting 2x 4K and 8x HD super slow motion. With such premium technology on offer, it will enhance the quality of production and aid in the overall development of the Indian entertainment and broadcasting industry towards the new 4K and HDR technology.
 
The center also looks forward to organizing seminars for 4K live production for sports, 4K cinematography cameras (F65/F55/F5) and OLED monitors for special training purposes. Aims to make Thane district free from open defecation
Thane, October 5, 2016: Habitat for Humanity, India , a global NGO focused on housing and sanitation for the marginalised people, has joined hands with Thane Municipal Corporation to build 10 community toilets taking the tally to 331 toilets in the district. This initiative at SatheWadi, would impact 500 individuals with access to 22 toilet seats including 11 toilets for men, 5 toilets for women, 2 toilets for children and 2 for differently abled individuals. In a ceremony held today, Mr. Sanjeev Jaiswal, Commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation, Mr. Jonathan Reckford, CEO, Habitat for Humanity International, Mr. Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India inaugurated the Thane community toilet project.
Habitat for Humanity, India has built 331 toilets in Thane and is addressing the dire urgency of lack of proper sanitation facilities to create better sanitation infrastructure. Open defecation adversely affects the health of the entire society. As part of Government’s drive towards promoting smart cities, it is imperative that all stakeholders work towards the goal to attain open defecation free India . This is in tune with the Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of providing ‘Housing for All by 2022’ and the mission to ‘End Open Defecation by 2019’. 
Speaking on this initiative, Mr. Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity, India said, “Many people lack access to better sanitation facilities causing serious hygiene and health issues. With the support of TMC, we are taking step towards making Thane district as open defecation free soon”.
He observed that in a country where 564 million of its citizens defecate in the open, it is imperative that the government and non-government bodies, corporate world and citizens work together to create better sanitation infrastructure.

Press release - SBI and IIT Kharagpur sign MoU to collaborate on Fin-Tech and Innovation

Mumbai, October 3, 2016: SBI is India’s leading financial institution, which in multiple modes is promoting innovation and collaboration with Fin-tech companies. Bengaluru, 22 September, 2016: In a press release issued today, the office of the Convenor CAT 2016 has announced an extension of the deadline for submission of application forms by exactly 5 days. The new deadline is 5:00 p.m. on 27th September. “The primary reason for the extension is to facilitate the applicants who are still in the process of completing their applications. There are many applicants in this stage, and we have been getting a lot of requests from them,” said Professor Rajendra K Bandi, Convenor, CAT 2016.
 
“The total number of submitted applications (as at 3:30 p.m.) is 2.08 lakhs, which is far in excess of the applications for the comparable period last year. This number is expected to go up further by 5:00 p.m. today, the original deadline. The corresponding number last year was 1.83 lakhs,” Prof. Bandi added.
 
The extension of the deadline has been notified on the CAT website.

Press Release - Whistling Woods International and Twitter India launched #DoWhatYouLove, a student-led Twitter video series

~Whistling Woods International is the first film and media education institute to create a 140 second video series on Twitter to reach out to a larger audience~
 
Mumbai, Thursday, 22 September 2016: Whistling Woods International (WWI) and Twitter India joined hands to launch a unique Twitter video series titled #DoWhatYouLove where students from the institute will have an opportunity to create video stories of 140 seconds, which will be tweeted every Tuesday.
 
Whistling Woods International became the first film and media education institute to create a concept like this on Twitter, which is a weekly opportunity for students to have their work shared around the world on an interest based public platform. Students from all schools of Whistling Woods International, namely School of Filmmaking, School of Animation, Actors’ Studio, School of Media and Communication, Whistling Woods School of Fashion, School of Music, among others, will contribute and participate in this initiative.

WWI students have the opportunity to interpret the #DoWhatYouLove theme based on their interests. Hence we are excited to see an eclectic range of videos throughout the academic year.
