Exploring English: Language and Culture
British Council repeats Massive Open Online Course on futurelearn.com by
popular demand
Mumbai, 20 January 2015: The British Council’s free Massive Open Online Course Exploring English: Language and Culture is being offered
on futurelearn.com for the second time, by popular demand. It is a six-week course that begins on 02 February 2015.
Chris Brandwood, Regional Business Development Manager, English, British Council South Asia, said,
“This course is
for those keen to improve their English for work, travel or study.
Large numbers of people from across the world signed up for the first
edition of the course and we look forward to large numbers this time
too.”
Based
on the British Council’s high-quality language learning content,
Exploring English: Language and Culture gives learners the chance to
practise their skills
online, to engage with people all over the world, to improve their
English and to develop an understanding of British culture.
The
course uses short videos to present a different topic each week,
including English as a global language, the environment,
entrepreneurship and literature.
It centres on social interaction, where people engage in debates and
participate in online quizzes, all of which encourage active learning.
The
British Council is working closely with FutureLearn and its university
partners to facilitate students’ access to British Council English
language content and assessment. You must be at least 13 years old to
create a profile on FutureLearn. Parents can register using their own
name and then supervise a child throughout the course.
The first edition of
Exploring English Language and Culture
was launched in
September 2014. Over 122,000 learners registered and participation
levels were the highest that FutureLearn has seen since their launch in
December 2012.
To register for the course and learn more MOOCs, interested candidates can log on to British Council website at
