Blurring the lines: Role of a Business Analyst

The Certified Software Business Analyst (CSBA) Common Body of Knowledge defines Business Analyst as, "uniquely placed in the organization to provide a strong link between the Business Community and Information Technology (IT)”. A modern business analyst not only needs to be a liaison, bridge and diplomat who balances the oftentimes inconsistent supply of IT resources and demands of the business, but also have a broader perspective in order to meet the challenging business environment.

As per the April 2008 Forrester Research report, like many technology-intensive roles inside companies today, the line between a pure business analyst and a pure IT business analyst has blurred. The report calls for a liaison role that can unite the business and IT on enterprise projects, systems development and business strategy.

Sonya Hooja has over eight years of work experience at Accenture (Management Consulting), Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) and the erstwhile Lehman Brothers, and has worked across US, Singapore and India. Her primary roles have been strategy development and project management across diverse industries such as financial services, education, public sector and pharmaceuticals. Her experience is invaluable to a company like Imarticus, that is focused on creating a sustainable pool of skilled professionals. She has a BA (Honors) in Economics from Rutgers University, USA and an MBA from INSEAD.
