CSR Advisors concludes 2-day Workshop on how CSR holds key to the Future of Corporate and Social Sector in India

Mumbai, May 29, 2014: India CSR Institute in association with CSR advisors and CSR and Finance Institute (CSRFI) organized a 2-day CSR workshop on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability and Entrepreneurship in India’. The workshop was led by CSR Advisors and Dr. Michael Hopkins, CEO of CSR and Financial Institute (CSRFI), a GRI qualified institute.

At the workshop, Dr. Hopkins explained the basics and primary areas of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) while underlining the importance of CSR strategy and social entrepreneurship.  Noshir H. Dadrawala, CEO of Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy elaborated on the new CSR Rules under Companies Act, 2013 in India. While elaborating on the intricacies of this Act, he explained how corporate companies should imbibe the CSR compliances. At the workshop, the Indian Documentary Foundation highlighted the potential of CSR for building brand leadership and organizational value. Pagal Pundits also conducted a session on the importance of monitoring mechanisms for tracking and analyzing viewer’s traffic on corporate, social or NGO websites.
 
Dr. Michael Hopkins, CEO of CSR and Financial Institute (CSRFI) said “According to the research by MHCi, India is ranked 73rd in the world for National Social Responsibility (NSRI). CSR is promising. It is a strategic tool for business. It will help increase private consumption, boost investments. It will increase employment in the country. CSR is extremely critical for big brands since it directly impacts reputation and image. It is important for corporate entities to note that stakeholders are the core of CSR.  Globally, Climate Change is a big issue and therefore, it has become important for corporate companies to invest less than 1% of their GDP for environmental CSR.”
 
Dr. Hopkins, a PhD in Economics also described the benchmarking parameters for rating companies for their CSR policies. Committed towards global development, Dr. Hopkins has worked for the United Nations development report. At the workshop, he elaborated on the global scenario of CSR and how it has immensely contributed towards sustainable development.
 
According to Dr. Hopkins, world over, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is being known and communicated through various related terms such as Corporate Citizenship, ethical organization, Shared value, corporate responsibility, corporate sustainability, good corporate governance, inclusive organization, civil organization.
 
The workshop was well received by delegates, professionals, CSR executives, social workers, government and civil servants. It helped improve their CSR knowledge, develop their social entrepreneurship and sustainable development skills.
