Press release: Lavasa Corporation and UK India Business Council (UKIBC) join hands to offer skill enhancement training with International Certificate Programmes, at Lavasa City

 
11 June 2014, Lavasa: Lavasa Corporation Limited (LCL) and UK India Business Council (UKIBC), a UK trade organisation, have tied up to offer innovative skill enhancement training programmes, with International Certification, on workforce development. UKIBC will be aiding in the development of key programmes, in association with a consortia of UK skills providers to create and deliver the pilot projects.  The consortium includes Association of Colleges - UK in India ((AoC India) and Manipal City and Guilds (MC&G).
 
The pilot, first of its kind was kicked-off last week and delivered Certificate Programmes and trainings for construction workers and security staff. Over 90 learners received training as part of the initial project. Each participant will receive between 40 and 120 hours of intensive training in next 3 months.

Explaining the association, Mr. Nathan Andrews, President and CEO, Lavasa Corporation said, “When completed, up to 300,000 residents are set to live and work in Lavasa City and the need to embed sustainable training programmes as part of the project has been key from the outset. Through this association, we hope to bring not only the renowned British education expertise, but best standards and content in developing skills and employability in the City.”
 
Speaking about the project Richard Heald, CEO, UKIBC said “I am delighted that UKIBC and Lavasa Corporation are jointly launching a pilot programme to skill young people in the Unarmed Security and Construction sectors in Lavasa.”
He went on to add, “This will provide Certificate Programmes, which crucially will be of International equivalence, to the local youth on successful completion of training. The certificates will confer national recognition.  I am confident that the pilot will provide a base for the future roll-out of collaborative skills development projects across multiple sectors in Lavasa and beyond.”
Also commenting on the project, Dickie McCallum, Managing Director, UKIBC India said, “Lavasa is an incredibly exciting and ambitious project, and I’m delighted that the UKIBC has been able to help bring together some fantastic examples of the UK’s excellent skills and education expertise to help develop a sustainable training programme for the city.”

How the Consortia will operate:
 
Acting as the Project Facilitator, UKIBC India will involve facilitating the creation of a consortia of UK skills providers with different operational skills, introducing the consortia to LCL, providing a secretariat function for the consortia throughout the planning and operation of the pilot, and assisting the consortia to evaluate the success of the pilot against pre-agreed parameters.
 
Lavasa will provide the infrastructure and equipment for the skills centres, marketing the pilot programmes locally, mobilize learners, and ensure all students in the pilot programmes are sponsored by various contractors/ vendors.
 
UKIBC India has appointed the Association of Colleges in India (AoC in India) as the Project Manager to develop the project on behalf of the UK technical and vocational education sector with the LCL. The other key stakeholder in the consortia will be Manipal City and Guilds Pvt Ltd (MC&G).
 
AoC India will act as the Project Manager and will be led by its member college Burton and South Derbyshire (BSDC) assisted by Highbury College. Highbury College has been instrumental in supporting BSDC with writing of the course content for the construction curriculum.  BSDC are delivering Train the Trainer (TTT) and Training of Master Trainers.
 
Manipal City and Guilds (MC&G) will provide assessment & certification, design and develop assessment tools, delivery of assessments and award of certificate to the successfully passed learner. They will also be responsible for project management of the training partner and manage and source the third party training delivery for the following courses (masonary and bar bending for construction and behavioural skills development programme for security personnel).
